Exporting Shopify data to cloud storage via SFTP

Posted by Jayden Bartram on Jun 26, 2021 10:26:00 AM

Using a third-party application, you can export your Shopify data out of Shopify and to a remote location. When pairing Matrixify capability with Couchdrop's cloud hosted SFTP you can export your Shopify products, collections, customers, orders, activity, and shop directly into the likes of Box, Google Drive, Dropbox, Amazon S3, or really anywhere!

See below the quick steps to export data to your cloud storage destination. First though you will need a Couchdrop account then the steps are:

  • Step 1. Connect your cloud storage to Couchdrop
  • Step 2. Create a new SFTP user to connect to the above location
  • Step 3. Configure SFTP in Shopify
  • Step 4. Configure Export to SFTP connection

Step 1. Connect your cloud storage to Couchdrop

Navigate to your storage dashboard and connect your storage. In this case we will use a Team Dropbox account, however, there is a wide range of options from Google Drive, Dropbox for individuals, Amazon S3, Box, and more or you could opt for Couchdrop’s own hosted storage.

2. Create a new SFTP user to connect to the above location

Now head to your user dashboard and add a new user. All you need to do is give the user a username, password, and set the root directory to be the mount point you set in the previous step (in this case we used /teamdropbox).

Step 3. Configure SFTP in Shopify

First, you will need to add the Matrixify (Excelify) app in your Shopify account. Once added navigate to settings and scroll down to servers. You'll need to set the fields below to ensure a successful connection.

Set the following:

  • Name — a name you can identify the connection as
  • Server Type — SFTP
  • Host — sftp.couchdrop.io
  • Port — 22
  • Authentication Method — password (unless you know what you’re doing, then feel free to use the RSA private key)
  • User — your created Couchdrop user SFTP username from Step 2
  • Password — the password you set for your Couchdrop SFTP user in Step 2

The connection will successfully save if the above is correct.

Create a new Export under the Matrixify (Excelify) dashboard. Follow the below steps and then select Export/Schedule (depending on if you’re scheduling or not).

  • Select the items you wish to export using the checkboxes
  • Decide if you wish for these to be exported on a regular basis or scheduled
  • Select the Upload to: Use the details from the SFTP connection we created above
