We've rebuilt and released our on-prem file server agent to be more robust with better performance, increased security, and easier customization options. The new agent is available immediately when you connect using the Windows/OSX Server connection in Couchdrop.
There are several upgrades you can find in the new agent.
A drawback of our previous file server release was that the update process was manual, and you would need to re-download and re-enter your connection information to update the agent. The new agent will let you know when an update is available and let you apply it without any manual processes.
We've made major performance improvements to the backend agent, and you should see better results for your file transfers. Sending and receiving from on-prem file servers is more robust in terms of file sanity, and security fixes and enhancements keep data protected.
The new rebuild includes two updated Mac versions of the agent and a Windows version. Our focus is now on Windows versions that are receiving regular updates, so we've dropped support for Windows 2012 servers to focus on more modern versions.
Advanced options like proxy server configurations, logging, and debugging can now be found directly in the agent. You'll find links to the config file and local logs in the options section, and on Windows machines, you have the ability to run the agent as a service with one click.
Setting up the new agent is fast and simple.
Paste the unique token from Couchdrop into the agent and test the connection in the Agent. Return to Couchdrop and hit Test and Save.
With the agent, Couchdrop can connect to on-prem file servers and NAS devices on the same network as long as the agent is running on the server. You can download and run multiple instances of the agent to connect to as many servers as you need for secure file transfers.
